Karen’s Thoughts #9: The Fear
Posted on June 21, 2012 Leave a Comment
The thing that I REALLY hate about myself is
the fact that I can over-think the hell out of things.
Don’t get me wrong I LOVE INTELLIGENCE… but
sometimes I feel like there needs to be some
sort of filter that won’t let me
obsess over uselessness.
Catatonia is not something my friends
would ever associate with me,
but I’m so good at hiding it that how could they know?
If you were to ask me what I’m afraid of the most
this would be my answer: doing nothing.

Linian Lessons #3: Mystics

This will be a real quick lesson for the day
…so listen closely.
The founding father of our Linkatsa Religion,
Linkera, married a woman named Seraph
a long time ago.
She had a father named Calm and a brother named Carious.
It was not completely understood by all parties involved,
but through their marriage, everyone in Seraph’s
bloodline received mystical powers.
At some point later on, Calm and Carious started to call
themselves Mystics.
Their powers came from humanity’s
collective spirit and their powers were
near infinite.
But someone or some people from behind the scenes
(or the spiritual plains?)
limited the Mystics powers
for either their own purposes
or just to make sure that the Mystics
could not dominate existence on a whim.
Mystic Calm considered both his son and himself
to be “gatekeepers of existence.”
He felt they were meant to only to keep the
“plot of life” from being derailed.

Karen’s Thoughts #8: Goalpost

In my time at high school,
I always knew I wanted to be a journalist
and I knew exactly what steps I needed to take
to get there.
(It helped that I knew Rachel Fairs.)
So it’s kind of hard for me to
relate to those who have no idea
of what they want to be.
It seems like a lot of life is aimless
and most of us are just shuffling around
looking for something the inspire us.
I think you have to make a mark in the distance
and aim to reach it.
It doesn’t have to be far,
but as you reach it,
start to draw another line as you cross the first one.
Just keep making those marks
and you’ll never be aimless…

Karen’s Thoughts #7: Comrades

When I was a young buck in the 90’s
I never had a problem making friends
despite having to keep most of my life a secret due to being
a Linian.
I could keep people near me spiritually, if not
personally.
My mother always made it a point to tell me
it’s not what people know about you
that makes you their friend,
it’s your unconditional support in the face of mutual respect.
But now that I’m in my 30’s,
I’m seeing that the older we get
and the more damage we accumulate
in our separate life journeys,
we pile on conditions that
don’t allow for those pure connections.
It’s painful to realize that we all can
speak the language of friendship but
we filter ourselves due to a fear of
vulnerability.
How can we destroy those filters?
I ask myself that everyday…
