The follow stream of consciousness is brought to you by the tweets of Curtis Scoon (@CurtisScoon), a person you should be following on Twitter if you want to have real discussions. Anyway here are the tweets from 1/15/2013 that I felt should be shared with others…
Am I surprised the creator of Scandal is black? No. There are certain depictions of blacks that increase the likelihood of a green light.
Black writers, producers, etc. know exactly what they are. The noble, honorable route is often the least successful one for us in show biz.
Black face is far more sophisticated these days. Pandering to negative stereotypes is the new black face.
Hollywood loves images of emasculated or psychotic black men, or “scandalous” over sexualized black women, etc. The question is why?
I believe it stems from a deep-rooted inadequacy/complex from the people responsible for this standard.
It’s always easier for people to cope knowing “I’m not the only one with this issue.” They’ve proceeded to infect all with their “baggage.”
The whole time they project their guilt and shame on black people to feel better about themselves and some of you are entertained by THAT?
How did black men become the face of drug lords, murderers, every despicable adjective in the dictionary when history tells a different tale?
You want to get ahead in a system hell-bent on your destruction? Become a promoter, conspirator and participant in that destruction.
All of us are guilty to varying degrees. Some out of ignorance and others out of selfishness. Denial is the cowards way to avoid duty.
How many of you looked at the Golden Globes? There were no “friends” in that room yet you daydreamed about one day being there. LOL
In hip hop nothing sells like BEEF. Death Row and Tupac showed us that. They key being the “beef” be black on black.
Oh how they love, promote and reward acts of SELF-DESTRUCTION. There’s 30 pieces of silver awaiting all willing to join their ranks.
Assisting in the exploitation of our own appears to be our only option in this system. Perhaps the only way to win is to not play the game.

Looking at the future standing before me I see a gigantic asterisk. I know the path I choose to walk on, but the scenery surrounding me as I stride grows more apathetic with every step. My world view doesn’t allow for entropy to be the end result of life…but others may believe that is the only path for them.
The dream turned out to be a lie used by those who exploit the dreamers. The future can sense the hallucinogenic properties of the dream and it chooses to self destruct on its own terms.
I am considered the past in the future’s eyes…but I need to find a way to get it to see past its limited viewpoint. The future does not realize that it’s throwing away its potential.
Generate Shunned

Nobody wants to be the old man on the lawn yelling at the kids. Everyone wants to say the the generation coming up is the WORST ONE EVER. This is nothing new and we expect the same dialogue to continue throughout the years. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but I feel something is getting lost in the translation of what we are teaching this younger generation.
I knew at a young age that the world wasn’t quite what the adults were telling me. Truth. Justice. Organization. Love. Those were the concepts that they put into me ( or possibly you, depending on your childhood experiences) to give direction in my life. But life experiences told me that “doing the right thing” came at a price…or is sometimes not rewarded or even respected. But even with all ot that reality in my face, I made the choice to be a mostly positive figure.
But now it seems like the young bucks today see through all of that sooner and have become jaded at an even earlier age. It’s hard enough being an adult and slogging through the daily aggravation. We at least have perspective to balance the eventual disappointments. The young ones seem to to “peak” at the empty experiences of life that we realize as adults after our frivolous searching …but they don’t have appreciation for the small things that do matter.
They look for the next empty “high.”
I don’t know what I was planning to say with this blog post, but it was just something that was running through my head right now. Who has the answer to this problem? It’s probably “we.”
